GROUP MEMBER RACHEL ORD WON A TRAVEL AWARD AT THE 2024 FIB-SEM MEETING FOR HER POSTER "A NEW PATH TO WRITABLE 2D MATERIALS".

BASSIM LAB MEMBERS BHAVESHKUMAR KAMALIYA, RACHEL ORD, AND DR. NABIL BASSIM, ALONG WITH CCEM STAFF MEMBERS TRAVIS CASAGRANDE, BETTY HUANG, AND GRANDFIELD LAB MEMBER TENGTENG TANG RECENTLY ATTENDED THE FIB-SEM 2024 MEETING HELD IN LAUREL, MD, USA.

GROUP MEMBER RACHEL ORD HAS BEEN SELECTED AS A RECIPIENT OF AN NSERC UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD FOR THE SUMMER 2024 TERM. CONGRATULATIONS, RACHEL!

Group member Betty Huang successfully defended her M.A.Sc thesis, titled "An Innovative Fabrication Route to Machining Micro-Tensile Specimens Using Plasma-Focused Ion Beam and Femtosecond Laser Ablation and Investigation of the Size Effect Phenomenon Through Mechanical Testing of Fabricated Single Crystal Copper Micro-Tensile", on September 20, 2023.

Group member Nasim Khoonkari successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis, titled "Image Alignment of 2D and 3D Scanning Electron Microscopy Semiconductor Data Sets", on August 3, 2023.

Caleb recently attended the Microscopy and Microanalysis 2023 meeting held in Minneapolis, where he presented his poster titled "Suspected Coupling of Dark Plasmonic Modes in Bilayer CdO"

Group member Chen Gu (pictured alongside her committee members) successfully defended her Ph.D. thesis, titled "Advanced Microstructure Characterization of High Strength Low Alloy Steels", on July 10, 2023.

Bassim Lab members Bhaveshkumar Kamaliya, Alyssa Williams, Mehdi Mosayebi, and Dr. Nabil Bassim recently attended the joint IUMAS8/MSC-SMC/FIB SEM 2023 meeting held in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

Bassim Lab collaborators Dr. Thomas Folland and Dr. Ravitej Uppu from the University of Iowa recently visited the group for a few days to tour the facilities, share their knowledge through public seminars, and work directly with members Caleb Whittier and Bhaveshkumar Kamaliya. Many interesting experiments were discussed and initiated, and we look forward to the continued collaboration!

Mehdi, Betty and Nabil were delighted to take part in the Workshop: Grain Boundary Problems in Steels at IREQ Headquarters at HydroQuebec in August. Great work was presented by Mehdi and Betty! Looking forward to new and great results!

Group members Alyssa Williams and Joachim de Fourestier both presented their research at the FIB-SEM meeting on May 4-5, 2022, with Alyssa presenting her work titled "Investigating Early HCoV-229E Virus Mediated Endocytosis Nanoscale Interactions with Focused Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopy" and Joachim presenting "Build Your Own Open-Source Web Viewer for 3D FIB-SEM Data."

Group members Joachim de Fourestier, Caleb Whittier, and Alyssa Williams travelled to Laurel, MD with Dr. Bassim to attend the annual FIB SEM meeting at the John Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.

Group member Hesham El-Sherif (pictured alongside the committee members) successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, titled "Multiscale Electron Microscopy Imaging and Spectroscopy of Atomically Thin Layers at Heteroepitaxial Interfaces", on August 9, 2021.

Group member Connor Wong (pictured alongside committee members Drs. Nabil Bassim, Andy Knights, and Jonathan Bradley) successfully defended his M.A.Sc. thesis on August 27, 2020.

Group member Hesham El-Sherif won best virtual presentation in the Mat session of MSC 2020 for his presentation "Plan-view HRTEM @80 KeV for 2D WSe2 - Revealing the locations of Re atoms doped two-dimensional WSe2 in HRTEM images".

Group member Khatereh Maleki (seen above presenting her poster) travelled to Vancouver this spring with Dr. Bassim to attend the MSC 2019 Annual Meeting.

Group member Sam Norris places first in the Materials Graduate Seminar Contest presenting his work on ion beam nanofabrication of integrated optical devices.

Bassim group congratulates members Yasamin Sartipi and Weiwei Zhang on successfully completing their M.A.Sc. defenses. We wish them all the best with their future endeavors.
